Based in Albany, Great Southern Geotechnics is an independent NATA Accredited Construction Materials Testing Laboratory, operating in compliance with AS ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001.

We conduct field investigations, test foundation and pavement materials, laboratory test soil samples, concrete and aggregates, and deliver a range of construction material services.

We offer well trained staff in conjunction with a modern facility to ensure that your test results are accurate , reliable and on time. Great Southern Geotechnics is dedicated to providing our clients with superior customer service and assist with your soil testing wherever possible.

We retain skilled and versatile technicians with diverse backgrounds who bring a ‘can do’ attitude to their assigned tasks. With a laboratory located in Albany, we maintain expert local knowledge of the area we live and work in.

Martin Coffey

Martin Coffey

Managing Director / Quality Manager

Martin has 15 years’ experience in the construction / materials testing industry, including a role as a Laboratory Manager at Albany Soil and Concrete Testing.

He has also worked at Cardno GeoTech Material Testing and with Main Roads WA. Martin has been responsible for the development of policies, procedures, and quality systems as per ISO/IEC 17025 resulting in NATA certification for GSG in late 2016.

His qualifications include a Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training, a Diploma of Laboratory Technology, and an Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations.

Andrew Purdie

Laboratory Manager

Andrew has 18 years’ experience, including a vast range of construction projects across Western Australia, including 12 years managing various laboratories.

His qualifications include an Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations, a Certificate II in Warehousing Operations, and a Certificate IV of Information Technology.

Jesse Gray

Laboratory Manager

Jesse has 12 years’ experience in the civil design / construction industry, including roles as Laboratory Manager at Cardno GeoTech Material Testing, Mining and Civil Geotest and Albany Soil and Concrete Testing.

His qualifications include a Certificate IV in Civil Engineering, a Certificate in Laboratory Operations, a Diploma of Laboratory Technology and an Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Operations.

Shane Gough

Shane Gough

Technical Manager

Shane has 10 years’ experience in the construction industry. This includes four years as a Laboratory Supervisor / Senior Technician at Albany Soil and Concrete Testing, plus a range of projects with CBH Group, Water Corporation and the City of Albany.

His qualifications include a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, a Diploma of Laboratory Technology, and an Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations.

Policies

Health & Safety Policy

Great Southern Geotechnics is committed to ensuring, so far as practicable, a working environment for its employees and members of the public, that is safe and without risk to health.

GSG when engaged to perform a service for a client will at all times identify and exercise all necessary precautions for the safety and health of all persons, including:

  • Great Southern Geotechnics Employees
  • Any Subcontractor and their employees
  • Client employees, agents, contractors and subcontractors
  • Any other person; Who may be affected directly or indirectly by or as a result of any work under the contract.

Great Southern Geotechnics will implement and maintain an OSH management system, which as a minimum requirement demonstrates compliance with:

  • All statutory requirements in relation to occupational safety and health, including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA) and regulation made under that Act
  • The requirements of AS 4801 – Occupational health and safety management system, specification with guidance for use.

GSG shall ensure that it and its employees, subcontractors and all other persons employed or engaged on work under the contract comply with the GSG OSH management plan.

Environmental Policy

GSG is a committed environmentally aware business and seeks the co-operation of relevant workers and business partners in ensuring operational practises are conducted with minimal
environmental impact.

Our objective is to work with our relevant major contractors, subcontractors, site representatives and business partners in order to achieve compatibility between economic development and maintaining the environment.

Insurances

GSG represents and warrants that it is, and are protected by worker’s compensation insurance and that GSG has such coverage under Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance policies which GSG deems to be adequate.

Certificates of all policies of insurance can be supplied upon request.
